Choose by audience before choosing by time
For adults, a shorts programme can be an accessible way to sample several filmmakers in one sitting. For children, start with the stated age range and running time, then check language and whether the session is dubbed, subtitled or largely without dialogue. Animation style alone tells you very little about subject matter.
If the programme includes a workshop, treat it as a separate activity: it may require advance registration, a particular language or an accompanying adult. Avoid booking a tightly packed morning of unrelated sessions just because they are all described as family events.
Before buying a screening ticket
Check the edition, city, cinema and hall, especially if the schedule includes partner venues. Read the complete shorts-block description instead of only the first title. Compare the total running time against your group's attention span and leave space for any introduction or discussion you want to attend.

For access needs, ask about the actual auditorium and the individual session rather than relying on a general cinema description.
Combine film with the winter city
Use an afternoon screening as the indoor anchor of your day, then keep a short central walk for later if the weather allows. If you want to add festive lights or market stalls, confirm their individual dates and hours; the wider festive season is not a guarantee that every activity is open.
For a family visit, plan a meal and toilet stop around the screening rather than adding another long seated activity immediately afterward. For adult animation fans, one carefully chosen block plus time to discuss it over dinner can be more rewarding than rushing between multiple venues.
