Bus From Venice To Ljubljana
FlixBus runs the direct coaches, several times a day in each direction. From Venice most departures use the stop at Mestre railway station on the mainland, with some starting at Tronchetto or Piazzale Roma on the edge of the historic city; those add up to an hour because the coach has to leave the island road first. Scheduled times run from about 3h to 4h, and the same pattern applies to the Ljubljana to Venice bus.
Advance fares start from about €20 and rise toward €45 close to departure or on summer weekends. The first departures leave early morning and the last in the evening. In Ljubljana every service uses the main bus station, and some also call at Dolgi Most in the west of the city, so check the stop on your ticket.
Train From Venice To Ljubljana
There is no direct train in either direction. The practical rail route is Venice to Trieste Centrale on a Trenitalia regional or fast train, about 1h to 2h, then the cross-border regional train from Trieste to Ljubljana, about 2h40. That second leg runs only twice a day, so build the Italian train around it and allow at least 30 minutes for the change. Expect 5h to 6h and about €30 to €60 in total.
An alternative chain runs through Austria via Villach, but it is longer and dearer. For the reverse trip, the morning Ljubljana to Trieste train connects to frequent Venice services; buy the two tickets separately with Slovenian Railways and Trenitalia.

Coaches to Venice depart from the main bus station on Trg Osvobodilne fronte, in front of the railway station. Some FlixBus services also stop at Dolgi Most in the west of the city; check the stop printed on your ticket.
Choosing the Venice end
Coming from Ljubljana you decide the arrival point when you book: Mestre for a mainland hotel or an onward train, Tronchetto or Piazzale Roma for the historic city. Both of the latter add time to the journey but save a local train or bus on arrival.
Train via Trieste from Ljubljana
The morning cross-border train from Ljubljana reaches Trieste Centrale in about 2h40, and Venice is another 1h to 2h on Trenitalia. Buy the two tickets separately and leave at least 30 minutes for the change.
Luggage before departure
If you check out early and leave in the afternoon, store bags at the station or with a luggage-storage service rather than carrying them through the center.
