Day 1
Meet Ljubljana through the river and Old Town
Use the city's natural sequence: central square and bridges, market, castle, historic lanes, then a long river evening. The aim is orientation without a cross-city checklist.
About 4–6 km, plus castle time
- 09:00–10:30
Prešeren Square, Triple Bridge, market, and Dragon Bridge
Walk east along the river-facing landmarks while the center is relatively calm. Browse the Central Market if the current day and season support it.
Plan around this: A quiet or closed market is still an important Plečnik architecture stop; do not build the whole morning around shopping.
- 10:30–12:30
Funicular and Ljubljana Castle
Take the funicular to save energy, then choose the viewpoints and indoor content that justify your ticket. Allow real visiting time rather than using the castle as a five-minute photo stop.
- 12:45–14:15
Old Town lunch
Eat below the castle and keep the route compact. A three-day stay gives you more meals, so this one does not have to carry every Slovenian dish at once.
- 14:15–16:30
Town Square to Congress Square
Walk south through Mestni trg, Stari trg, and Gornji trg, then cross at Cobblers' Bridge. Pause for courtyards and details instead of adding another major attraction.
- Late afternoon
Boat or riverbank, according to today
Use a live boat departure if weather and timing work, or take a free riverside walk and café break. Neither choice harms the itinerary.
- Evening
Dinner beside the center
Stay near the river or Old Town for the first evening. Check current events, but resist turning arrival day into a late cross-city mission.
